We open this week's show with an interview with the multi-stylistic multi-instrumentalist Jherek Bischoff, a performing guest in the upcoming Ecstatic Music Festival Preview concert in The Greene Space on Wednesday, February 1. A veteran of celebrated indie rock groups Xiu Xiu and Parenthetical Girls, Bischoff discusses an upcoming performance with Wordless Music Orchestra, his propensity for writing in closets, and his recent collaboration with David Byrne. 

For the remainder of Monday's show, as well as on Tuesday and Friday, we explore music that was written during composers’ salad days. We focus on the early works that catapulted some of our favorite composers into their careers. For some, these are voice-defining pieces, and for others, these works were composed in styles long discarded. Wednesday and Thursday’s shows are devoted to the epic new-music marathon that opened the inaugural Ecstatic Music Festival at Merkin Concert Hall.
