24-Hour Marathon of Emerging Female Composers
We Want Your Recommendations, Your Ideas, Your Music
Thursday, August 07, 2014
In June-July, we asked listeners to vote for their favorite idea for a 24-hour, new-music marathon from the listener-nominated list above. Despite a back-and-forth race with our neighbors outside of New York, Female Composers ended up with the majority of votes.
The theme of female composers – which we're refining to emerging female composers so that we can emphasize discovery of new voices (our mission!) over a basic gender difference – will inspire 24 hours of distinct, no-repeats programming on Sunday, August 24 (encore presentation Thursday, August 28) as part of our monthly 24 Hours on the 24th series. We also recognize that "emerging" most immediately refers to the limitations of our own playlists, and thus will be searching far and wide to share with you composers and works never before featured on the stream.
We will strive to make August 24 as ear-opening, breathtaking and stylistically varied as befitting the international roster of emerging female composers, but we always love and need to hear from you! So don't hesitate to tell your amazingly talented friend to send us her music (instructions here) and not just to include during this marathon but to enrich the quality and diversity of our standard programming.
