Verdi Flashmob

Giuseppe Verdi has inspired plenty of flash mob performances – in markets, public squares and department stores.

In honor of the 200th anniversary of his birth, here's one with particular charm. Released earlier this year, it features "Va, Pensiero," sung by the WDR Radio Choir Cologne in a mall in Cologne (hat tip: Slipped Disc).

I remember long ago, sitting 'up close' at a Met NABUCCO performance; when the orchestra struck up the familiar chords of the now-iconic Hebrew slave chorus, you could see the entire front row, to a man and woman, join in, many openly weeping as they sang along. One of the most rousing pieces of music ever written, and certainly a high water mark, during ten years as an opera goer! To this day, it makes my heart swell and... my eyes grow moist!

Scooter woman had to sing the correct pitch of A-sharp because she didn't want to B flat (i know you all got that).

Is it possible for you to collect and create a download of the "Verdi operas in three minutes" features? They always are accurate and they make me laugh! Thanks.

The original "flash mob" performance of "Va,Pensiero" occurred at Verdi's funeral in 1901.Kudos to the woman who, with one foot on her scooter, began a capella on the correct pitch of A-sharp.
