Wednesday, November 03, 2010
Listen NOW via our pop-out audio player or iTunes!
On Monday, November 15 at 7:30 pm, Q2 presents a live audio Web cast of Credo, featuring members of the Icelandic art-rock band Sigur Rós along with a wild constellation of international ensembles, including the Hilliard Ensemble, the Latvian National Choir and the Wordless Music Orchestra led by Jeffrey Milarsky.
The event will be hosted by WNYC's John Schaefer from the Church of St. Paul the Apostle.
Part of Lincoln Center's White Light Festival, Credo features Riceboy Sleeps, a work built on the orchestral arrangements of Sigur Rós lead singer Jón Þor "Jónsi" Birgisson in collaboration with the musician Alex Somers. The evening also includes new works by Sigur Rós keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson, one of which features text by Canadian poet Anne Carson.
During the concert, Q2's Nadia Sirota will be moderating a live online chat with host John Schaefer from the Church itself (see below).
About Sigur Rós
Formed in 1994, Sigur Rós (translated as "Victory Rose") achieved international recognition through the release of four albums which, though capturing the serene, majestic expanses of their native Iceland, point somewhere refreshingly new as well. Credo offers the chance to isolate distinct voices from the band with a choral set by keyboardist and composer Kjartan Sveinsson and arrangements from Riceboy Sleeps, a project by Sigur Rós vocalist Jónsi Birgisson and partner Alex Somers.
Check back on this page for on-demand audio from Credo and on the White Light Filtered schedule page for additional webcast dates of this momentous collaboration.

Still waiting... So, let's do a proposition: if they don't give their OK before, say, tomorrow, they MUST bring the same show in Europe. Good deal, isn't it? :D
*tap* *tap* *tap*
[looks skyward wistfully waiting]
WAITING PATIENTLYYYYYYYYY. opss
Visiting this page atleast 4 times a day waiting for this..
{tapping fingers on my desk impatiently}
still trying to be patient to hear this! ;)
We're here as well and can't wait more for any possibility to listen to that record!
I'm a friend of State Choir Latvija conductor Maris and a big fan of Sigur Ros, 2 wonders together for me, unbelievable!
OK we wait... But you know, these musicians are always happy, it's also for that reason we love them :)
Thank you all for your enthusiasm and we look forward to archiving the concert online. We want to make sure all the artists are happy with the recording before we post anything, but we assure you it will be soon. Check Q2's facebook / Twitter accounts for up-to-the-minute information and announcements.
Really looking forward to listening to this again and all of it this time, because here in Athens, it was 3am at the time of the stream... Anyway, great job and thanks for the stream!
Really excited to hear this on demand.. When will we see it?
How/ where can I listen on-demand? Thank you.

Transcendental is the only word to describe this music. Such exceptional human beings capable of such beauty.
Right, Sodium -- and everybody, don't just check back at www.wqxr.org/q2/ to find out about the stream of last night's great show ... also jump in on the Q2 Playlist http://www.wqxr.org/playlists/q2/, pop out the true-blue player on the upper right of the page (hit the Q2 tab) and listen for a while. Nadia Sirota, our charming chat host last night, has her super show every day from noon to 4p NY time (repeats at midnight). And Q2 is streaming "the fearless and relevant music you crave" 24/7. I noted lots of people last night saying they hadn't known about Q2 until they jumped on to hear Jonsi and Alex. You'll be amazed how much great music the Q2 team is serving up around the clock. And no, I don't work for the joint, I'm just one flat-out happy regular customer. It's the best development to hit contemporary music since the Theremin!
:-)
EVERYONE TAKE A CHILL PILL! Yes, the stream will be available for DL in a few days......;p)
" Q2: Please check out www.wqxr.org/q2/ in the following days for the entire concert available for on-demand streaming and archiving!! "

Thanks all!
I missed it as well!!! Drats...I read it will be available to hear again. Any idea when and where?
Exquisite. Thank you!
Nadia, John, Bryan, Alex, Elizabeth and everyone at Q2, congratulations on an articulate, moving, personable delivery of the Lincoln Center White Light Festival's CREDO program.
Such a vibrant, ranging conversation we had in the site's chat with a couple of thousand listeners interacting from so many parts of the world and so many niches of the contemporary music spectrum, in real time with the event.
This is Q2 at its best: using today's tech to leverage tomorrow's music.
Between the work of Milarsky, Handler, Sveinsson, Jonsi, Alex and these keen, unique ensembles -- the Hilliard, Latvian National and Wordless -- we shared a masterful summit, punctuated for us online with on-the-fly rehearsal and backstage photos.
Q2 found its own, spirited voice tonight. What a promising sound.
And for those of us who "score our lives" with your work daily, it was great to have proof, once and for all, that you actually don't always have to be there to be there. :-)
Cheers,
-p.
So beautiful!! Thanks for a spectacular show!! So cool to be listening with people from around the world.
I missed it and I am so upset! Will tonight's performance be available to listen online at a later date or available for download??
I don't have the words to describe this... it was simply beautiful.
Thank you all!
Kjartan, Jónsi and Alex, you're amazing.

Such a stunning night of online discussion from around the world... and in sync with this inspiring live broadcast that was so beautifully orchestrated (bravo Ronen & Co) and beautifully captured (bravo Q2 team). An entirely new way to experience a sold-out concert!
Thank you so much for sharing the performance!
This performance has purged my entire conscience and left me in complete peace. If only the rest of the world could have joined us.
Take care of yourselves,
Cheers.
Thanks WQXR for bringing this magical concert. This is history in the making!
Indeed, quite a moving show. I felt my heart soar and sing with these fantastic artists--I was absolutely speechless. Thanks again for this moving journey, particularly for the orchestrated version of "Riceboy Sleeps."
Such a beautiful thing to listen to. It sounded so amazing and I'm so moved and honored to have been able to listen to it live. Thank you so much! Stunning!
I just have to say that this concert FAR outstripped my already high expectaions.
It was spiritual, musical and simply out of this world.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

I'd been uninspired for so long, this came as a surprise , out of the blue, and i sat and listened from start to finish, and my eyes are open to the world again. something about hearing my favourite album for the first time in a long while, live, like this..
thankyou. so much.
This has been probably the most powerful and moving musical experience of my life.
Kjartan's Credo has moved me more than anything I've ever experienced.
I'll be leaving this webcast a changed woman, on top of the sheer beauty of Jonsi & Alex's work.
Southern belle, listening from little Rock, Arkansas.
Indian Summer captured me... I haven't ever felt that content yet longing for so much more at the same time... Truly incredible. I cannot thank you two enough...
You have touched my heart in ways I never would have though possible.
Thank you.
Seriously the most amazing collaboration between Northern European artists... so proud to call myself Latvian, and so proud of Jonsi and Alex and Kjartan for making this public transition to a different style of music that is just as transcendent and gorgeous as anything else they've ever done... I hope this wakens the world to their amazing talent.
We are blessed and very lucky to have the chance to listen to this music. I would like to thank Alex and Jonsi for having the courage and determination to share what they have in their hearts with us, using this incredible universal language. I encourage everyone to go buy GO, the solo album by jonsi, it is a gem.
Amazing!
