Timetable Percussion with Yejin Gil
Live from (Le) Poisson Rouge on June 20
Friday, September 03, 2010
The realtor's mantra -- location, location, location -- appears to ring true in this successful installment of the Mannes College's Institute and Festival for Contemporary Performance. While previously housed entirely at the College's auditorium, this year Mannes chose to move some concerts to the trendy and amplified club, (Le) Poisson Rouge, resulting in an electrifying atmosphere at this TimeTable Percussion performance on June 20. Pianist Yejin Gil and flutist Sarah Carrier are also featured in works by Unsuk Chin, Philippe Hurel, Nathan Davis, Pascal Dusapin and José-Luis Hurtado.
Always playing outside the lines, TimeTable is a percussion trio that specializes in music crossing the boundaries of style and genre, collaborating often with emerging and established composers to expand the repertoire for percussion-based music. TimeTable is joined by two musicians who are equally recognized for their dedication to contemporary music: Korean-born pianist Yejin Gil, who has skyrocketed to international new music stardom with her recent win at the 2010 Orleans Concours International, a piano competition specifically for the 20th century piano repertoire; and Sarah Carrier, a founding member of the New York-based group, Syzgy New Music Collective.
