Known best as a multi-instrumentalist, playing electric guitar, keyboards and sampler, and one of the driving artistic voices behind the art-rock band Radiohead, the 39-year old Greenwood is also a classically trained violinist who has become a symbol for an under-40 generation of composers who move between idioms of complex popular music and more classically-oriented Western Music. Also aware of the acute cinematic possibilities of his pieces, Greenwood has adapted Doghouse for the Anh Hung Tran's film Norwegian Wood (based on the Haruki Murakami best-seller), just as his Popcorn Superhet Receiver from 2005 (also premiered by the Wordless Music Series) was transformed for the Oscar-nominated film, There Will Be Blood. The string trio soloists from this performance of Doghouse include Courtney Orlando, violin; John Pickford Richards, viola; and Lauren Radnofsky, cello.

Rounding out the program is another versatile piece, Philip Glass's Symphony No. 4, "Heroes" which riffs on six tracks from the 1977 David Bowie / Brian Eno album, "Heroes," as a basis for a Twyla Tharp Dance Company production and György Ligeti's Chamber Concerto for 13 Instruments, an iridescent piece for six wind, five string and two keyboard players with Ligeti's characteristic mix of complex tempi overlays and dense, dark harmonies.
