Extended Play with JACK Quartet, Imani Winds, Dither, and NOW Ensemble
Live from Miller Theatre on October 16, 2011
Saturday, November 26, 2011
The ferociously fearless JACK Quartet hosted Extended Play, SONiC's all day marathon of New Music featuring some of the most innovative ensembles New York City has to offer. The nine hour extravaganza took place from noon to midnight on October 16, 2011, featured eight ensembles, and highlighted the works of forty-four composers.
This third and final part of the marathon commenced with musical hosts JACK Quartet performing works by another college classmate, Matt Barnson, and by Ensemble 21's Jason Eckardt. The New York-based group Imani Winds opened their set with a piece by their very own flautist, Valerie Coleman, and rounded out their performance with excerpts from DBR's Five Chairs and One Table. The high octane Dither Electric Guitar Quartet attacked an innovative quintet of works and the NOW Ensemble completed the 12-hour marathon of New Music with works off their most recent record Awake.
