On Jan. 27 at 7 pm in The Greene Space, composer Huang Ruo joins WQXR host David Garland for "Written on the Wind" -- an evening of conversation and premiere performances from New York and China-based composers that explore how place and tradition shape a composer’s style.
The evening includes music by New York composer/performers Min Xiao-Fen and Huang Ruo, Chen Xing-Ruo from Beijing, and Shen Ye from Shanghai, performed on traditional Chinese and western instruments.
The event will be broadcast live on 105.9 FM WQXR, streamed at Q2 Music and and available as a live video Webcast through the video player below.

robin, how can it not be good? the world is getting smaller anyway, no art form is "pure" anymore, and most of the time it's because it's not "pure" that new and beautiful things keep turning up. what's more, they still with their own culture as the base of the composition, they're not trying to completely writing like westerners.
A noteworthy concert, all the more remarkable to be broadcast live. Many thanks to WQXR, and of course to Huang Ruo, Min Xiao Fen and the others for a most singular event.
Xiao-Fen Min's performance was simply beautiful, dramatic and forceful,
Huang Ruo's compositions represent the new generation of fusion music,
like a bridge connecting East & West.
I enjoyed listening it so much.
Wonderful programming and interesting/beautiful music and performances. I wish WQXR would make available
a tape or CD of the whole program so I could share it with my grand children and friends, many of which are
classical musicians. ( the friends, not the children... )

very brave and fearless performer. She reminds me of Meredith Monk. Wow so much change going on in China. But it looks like the people there are keeping up with it. Is that good? I'm not so sure. But the western influence is very prominent and refined.
