As major concert venues around the world prepared tributes to Steve Reich on his 70th birthday with performances of his works, Reich stopped by the WNYC studios to talk to John Schaefer about what he thinks has changed throughout his 40-year career. Also, a discussion about his relationship to Daniel Pearl's family and what he learned while composing Daniel Variations.

I first heard your 18Musicians in high school in NYC on WNYC when i got there from Italy in 1978; you changed my world . I later went to see you with my father at Columbia University, and blew his world away too.
That was a "teachable moment", for both of us as a individuals and as a father and son.
