Live at (le) Poisson Rouge on May 6, 2011
Thursday, March 01, 2012
On May 6, 2011, the NOW Ensemble, Chiara Quartet and Matmos celebrated two CD releases with a performance at the Greenwich Village venue, (le) Poisson Rouge. Join us this Thursday at 7 pm to hear the performance aired in its entirety.
The NOW Ensemble performed selections off of their record Awake, which features works by Judd Greenstein, Sean Friar, Missy Mazzoli, Mark Dancigers, David Crowell and Patrick Burke. The group features an unusual instrument combination of flute, clarinet, electric guitar, double bass and piano and its members have played with the likes of Sigur Ros' Jónsi, the New York Philharmonic, The National and the Mark Morris Dance Group.
The Chiara Quartet and Matmos celebrated the release of their Grammy-nominated Jefferson Friedman: Quartets. The album showcases works by Friedman written specifically for the quartet and Matmos' remixes of the two compositions. The quartet is well-known for its interpretations of traditional mainstays of the string quartet repertoire and for its commitment to the commissioning and premiering of new works.
You can hear this performance Thursday at 7 pm and again Saturday at 10 am.
