Tuesday, February 09, 2010
Love and passion--from the 15th Century! For Valentine's Day early music duo Asteria performs 15th Century Burgundian love songs in the WQXR studio.
Singer Sylvia Rhyne and singer/lutenist Eric Redlinger join host David Garland to talk about the medieval "courtly love" tradition, what life was like in the Burgundy courts, how the expression of love has and hasn't changed through the centuries, and Asteria's own modern love story.

Oops, my bad. Asteria!
As of today, I'm a new fan and a huge fan of Asperia. Exquisite!
heard the program while driving into Manhattan..loved it! What a lovely love story for these two...I laughed with joy upon hearing it. A great Valentine's Day program. Please do again.
Longtime fans of Asteria--thanks for having them on. It's always nice to hear not just the music but also their enlightening remarks about the culture that engendered such music. What a great treat for Valentine's day.
What a perfect program for a winter Sunday afternoon. I greatly enjoyed the music, and the historical commentary, which truly took us back in time. Thanks, David, as always, for your wonderful programming.
very enjoyable
Thank you for this exposure. What a lovely way to spend a gray sunday! Sylvia is so melodic when speaking to the audience; her spirit is so very much conveyed through her voice.
