Congratulations on a superb, provocative and intriguing list of candidates for purchasing this season of hedonistic acquisition. One today views the plenitude of Everything Ever Recorded, Visually and Aurally, of MAJOR figures of music, the theater, the fine arts and sculpture, as Seventh Heaven dream realization.
Hi Jill,
The versions by the Montreal Symphony conducted by Charles Dutoit and the Chicago Symphony under James Levine are both very well regarded. But individual tastes are always very particular, so feel free to shop around.
Good luck!
I'd like to buy a recording of "The Planets" by Gustav Holst for my father. Can you recommend a particular version? Thanks.
