Live Chat: Watch the Oscars with WQXR and WNYC

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

This Sunday, during the Academy Awards, join WQXR and WNYC hosts, producers, bloggers and fellow fans for a live chat. As you watch the broadcast, you can debate here about the movies you loved and hated, the outfits you're seeing and the awkward acceptance speeches.

Joining in throughout the night will be WQXR hosts David Garland, Elliott Forrest and Jeff Spurgeon and WNYC hosts Kurt Andersen and Sara Fishko. The chat kicks off at 8 pm and the ceremony will be broadcast on ABC.

"War Horse" is one of the most beautiful films I have ever seen and I been going to the movies for 50 years. Everything about it is beautiful. The storyline, the screenplay, the music, the cinematography and the acting. So how is it that Mr. Spielberg was not nominated for Best Director? Film is a director's medium and with all the nominations for "War Horse", including Best Picture, it seems logical that the Academy would conclude that the picture did not direct itself.
I think this film is easily one of Speilberg's finest efforts. There is a soul to the presentation of this film that equals that of "Schindler's List".
Hollywood is, if nothing, rather a fickle place, and this may not be "Speilberg's year". But mark my words, long after people have forgotten about "The Artist" and 3D loses its appeal, viewers will be taking annual looks at "War Horse" for decades to come.
