Renee Fleming´s "Ne poi, krasavitsa, pri mne" (S. Rachmaninov) please. Thank you again and my kindest regards to all of you at Operavore.
From Anna Netrebko´s Russian Album, excerpt from Scene IV of War and Peace (S. Prokofiev) please, thank you all at Operavore stream!
"Parlar non vuoi?", Il Trovatore (Verdi), with Placido Domingo and Rosalind Plowright, please.
Sondra Radvanovsky in "Arrigo! Ah, parli a un core", from Verdi's I Vespri Siciliani please. Thank you so much for the Operavore stream!
Final scene from Norma (Bellini) with Monserrat Caballé in Orange 1974, best version ever! she´s almost surreal. "Casta diva" same production and "Qual cor tradisti, qual cor perdesti" again same production.
Thank you everybody at Operavore, your work is really great.
I would love to hear some of Anna Netrebko's performances. Her performance of Tatyana's letter from Eugene Onegin, or anything else! I would recognize her voice right away and be incredibly happy to hear it.
Thanks!
Your request having been making their way to the play list. Keep them coming!
To everyone that has requested more modern opera: make sure to tune-in to Operavore Tuesday, May 8th at 7pm for Kevin Puts' opera, Silent Night. He recently won the Pulitzer Prize for this work. More information here: http://www.wqxr.org/#!/blogs/operavore/2012/may/04/kevin-puts-pulitzer-winning-emsilent-nightem-minnesota/
I'd love to hear some Michael Maniaci, anything from Vivaldi's Ercole sul Termodonte (e.g. the recording with Villazon, DiDonato...), and anything from Landi's "Sant'Alessio."
Also, I love the scene between Wotan and Brunhilde in the last act of Die Walkure, where Brunhilde convinces Wotan to temper his punishment, and the two must bid farewell.
Bizet's Carmen is a great opera, and I would like to hear the second to last song in Act 3 (Je suis Escamillo, Torero de Grenade). The performance I love invovled Plácido Domingo as José with Lorin Mazel conducting at the Opera National de France. The duet between Escamillo and José is just divine!
Operavore, you are terrific. Agree with previous comments asking for more variety to expand my horizons. But I also love the old war horses, in particular anything with Jussi Bjorling, any of the duets with Robert Merrill, or Act III of Manon Lescaut with Dorothy Kirsten. Fritz Wunderlich's Dies Bildness ist bezaubern schon from Magic Flute. Sandor Konya's In Fernem Land from Lohengrin. Act I duet with Sutherland and Pavarotti from Lucia di Lammermoor. Sextet from the same recording. I could go on but note your request to be brief.
One of my favorite things about Operavore? Hearing favorites, but then suddenly hearing something that's new to me and utterly wonderful and sends me rushing to the website's playlist. This morning it was Rachmaninoff's Francesca da Rimini. Another time it was Barber's Vanessa. What a delight. Please continue the musical diversity on Operavore!
Please play
Otello, "The Willow Song"
Il Tabarro, "Perche non m'ami piu" TITO GOBBI
Aida, tomb scene, Bjoerling, Milanov
La Rondine, Act II Quartet,
We would like to hear Billy Budd if possible the John Dexter production at the Metropolitan Opera
Claggarts Lament...Retired Met
Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau singing The evening Star aria from Tannhauser-----Incomparable!!!!!!!!!
I love the channel... I'm completely new on opera I have found this site very helpful to me... I learned something everyday listening to it! tomorrow will be a great day as the barbieri is the only one I had the opportunity to se live on the MET last year.
I would suggest to include a broader spectrum from the beggining of opera... 1600 and 1700... I'm not sure if is possible to have recordings from that time.
thanks!
Tomorrow we get the rare opportunity to say, "Happy Birthday" to the great opera composer, Rossini. We will be playing Rossini throughout the day. What are your favorite Rossini overtures, arias, duets, etc.?
I love this as well. and agree with Mark that the banner on top is only half readable. would like more info up there - who is singing etc. And my old favorite Jussi Bjoerling. what a voice!! and Rosenkavalier arias are so wonderful. And agree with all the other comments. This is a magnificent site for opera lovers...
I have many CDs which feature the voice of Ferruccio Tagliavini. I would like Operavor to play for WQXR listeners his voice. I am very sorry that Tagliavini did not receive the exposure he deserved. In a book by Pavorotti the author felt that he must do his best singing when he saw Tagliavini in the audience.
Tagliavini, Italy's greatly admired bel canto tenor, was invited by President Harry S. Truman to the White House when he first arrived in the United States after the end of the European part of World War 2.
Maybe the aria "Ebben? Ne andro lontana" from Catalani's opera "La Wally." I love the version from the film Diva, but there's a great Maria Callas version as well.
And more John Adams please. My favorite is "Batter My Heart" from "Doctor Atomic."
I'd like to suggest the sextet "You Don't Know What It's Like" from Jake Heggie's opera "Dead Man Walking." It's simply beautiful.
I don't have a specific request, just that you offer a little more variety. I love Mozart and Verdi as much as the next person, but how many Sempra Liberas and Dove Sonos do you think we want to hear in a single day?
If I wanted to be able to identify 90% of the songs within their first two measures, I'd listen to CBS FM.
Sophie and Octavian's love duet from 2nd act of Der Rosenkavalier please,
and a cut or two from Janáček's Cunning Little Vixen with that amazing haunting melody. Thanks Operavore!
Please stream Liu'sbrief, but poetic aria from Turandot. It's like a simple Picasso drawing--Puccini genius.
Would love to hear Renee Fleming's aria from Die Tote Stadt (Marietta's lied). Thank you!
I love Operavore, but I agree with others that it gets a little repetitive. Maybe you could throw in some Stravinsky ("Rake's Progress," Act 1, Scene 3) or Bartok (Door 5 or Door 7 from "Bluebeard's Castle" would be great, especially at night!)
Pat, are you listening online or via a mobile device?
Why can I no longer access Operavore? I have been enjoying listening, but yesterday and today - though i can hear WQXR, I can get no sound when I click on operavore!
I would love to hear opera and operetta arias sung by Richard Tauber. Schmaltz done right.
You asked about favorite last acts from opera. I have two. The last lact of La Boheme and the last act of Aida. Love OPERAVORE!!
I am very much enjoying Operavore, now, despite the fact that much of the music is repeated a bit more often than I would like....
I wonder if you could add in the mix some excerpts from great choral pieces, such as Verdi's Requiem, etc., many of which have been performed by opera companies on opera stages, and which feature many of the great operatic voices you feature in your other selections.
Please play the aria "Rented Rooms" from Carlisle Floyd's opera COLD SASSY TREE.
We have Ms. Leontyne Price playing throughout the day! Happy Birthday, Leontyne Price!
@ Sheila - We have several Jonas Kaufmann tracks in there, including stuff from his newest record! Are there any arias you want to hear him sing?
@Tim - We are working on getting rights to play full operas! Stay tuned! And I couldn't agree more about Der Rosenkavalier. We have a tracks including the famous trio from the second act with Renee Fleming and Susan Graham! Is there a vintage recording you're partial to?
@ Kurt & DC - We will work on getting those into the playlist ASAP.
DEAR OPERAVORE, MY FAVOURITE FINAL SCENE FROM AN OPERA IS THE FINAL TRIO FROM VERDI'S LA FORZA DEL DESTINO. THERE IS NO MORE HEAVENLY SOUND THAN WHEN TEBALDI,DEL MONACO AND SIEPI INTONED THOSE SOARING PHRASES ON DECCA RECORDS. AS FOR LEONTYNE PRICE'S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION,SHE NEVER SANG ANYTHING MORE BEAUTIFULLY THAN ADRIANA'S ENTRANCE ARIA IO SONO LÚMILE LÁNCELLA FROM CILEA'S ADRIANA LECOUVREUR. THOUGH SHE NEVER SANG THE ROLE ONSTAGE,I CERTAINLY WISH SHE HAD AS WELL AS COUNTESS ALMAVIVA AND SALOME. WHAT A DIVINE SOPRANO SHE WAS1
Vittorio Grigolo! Who premiered alongside Pavarotti. Let's hear some of the up and coming youngsters. Marlis Petersen and others, too. Thanks!
Am loving Operavore! I second the motion for a Leontyne Price birthday celebration. Also, please play entire acts of operas instead of only arias. You have the time, and playing longer cuts gives the flavor of drama and story which is such a highlight of the opera experience. Act II of Rosenkavalier please!
I havn't heard about Cristina Villaroel (I think that's how we spell her last name)- I saw her in Madama Butterfly at the Met many years ago and she's on par with Patricia Racette.. and Un Bel Di is always my favorite..
Please play any opera aria, duet, trio with Jonas Kaufmann! Does Lieder fit into your program at all? Kaufmann and others have recorded so many wonderful "art songs."
Thanks for considering!
Friday, February 10th, is Leontyne Price's birthday. What are your favorite Leontyne Price tracks?
Dale - tracks of his are on the way!
Could you play any recording of Leonard Warren?
Thanks
Favorite trios, quartets, etc?
Many thanks to those of you who have made requests! Because of you we have some wonderful additions to the playlist. Keep listening and keep the request coming!
From Benjamin Britten's Peter Grimes, I love "From the Gutter" (Act 2) and Interlude # 5 (the "Moonlight" Interlude).
For Janacek, you can't go wrong with "Co Chvila, co chvila," from his opera Jenufa.
Operavores, what is your favorite final scene from an opera? Let us know so we can get it on the play list!
@Bennett, what are your favorite Britten and Janacek opera moments?
I love Operavore, but I do second another listener's request for more 20th century opera. Really, it makes my day any time I hear anything from John Adams. More please. And let's not forget overtures, arias and interludes from such greats as Britten, Janacek, and up and comers like Jake Heggie. Can I say I'm a fan of operatic diversity?
The "Whats playing now" line at the top of the Operavore page is never correct. In fact it never changes. Switching to the "Full Player" only lists the day's itinerary up till 6:pm or there abouts. This also was true with the OBeethoven month long streaming. Also that line is 1/2 masked. Can you help? I'm using IE 8. Thank you.
Please play more of Bellini and Donizzetti: it seems that these two bel canto composers are very under-represented in the stream.
Christopher, we agree! Did you catch Sanford Sylvan singing "I am old and cannot sleep" from Nixon In China? What did you think?
Anything John Adams, and some Philip Glass would be marvelous. Let's not forget that opera is a tradition, alive, well, and made in the present day!
I would like to hear the concluding rondo from La Cenerentola of Rossini sung by the incomparable Giulietta Simionato. She sings the complete role on a Decca recording.
@ Michael and Julie - Thanks for the request! We'll get these selections on the playlist for you. Thanks for listening to Operavore and keep the request coming!
"Ah si, ben mio coll'essere..." Manrico's Aria from Act III, Il Trovatore
I prefer Giuseppe Di Stefano or Mario Del Monaco
I have several favorites:
1. The Barber of Seville - Prey, Alva, Berganza, Dara/Abbado: entire second act
2. Tosca - Leontyne Price, et. al, her 1955 NBC-TV Opera performance, entire second act
3. Lucia di Lammermoor - Joan Sutherland, Nicolai Gedda, et. al, the Bell Telephone Hour - Act 2, sextet "Chi mi frena tal momento"
