Saturday Morning Cartoons: Popeye's Full-Contact Conducting
Saturday, March 10, 2012
Franz von Suppe’s Poet and Peasant Overture is featured in the 1935 Popeye cartoon “The Spinach Overture.”
After Bluto steals away Popeye’s tiny band to join his orchestra, Popeye naturally turns to a can of spinach and triumphantly conducts the musicians in Suppe’s piece while battling with Bluto.

POPEYE has to be one of my very favorite maestros. :-)
Who could ever forget the Spike Jones rendition of this overture. Older folks were lucky enough to hear that as well as the William Tell overture.
Thanks,Popeye,that was wonderful!
