NEW YORK -- George Manahan, who has been a fixture in the pit of New York City Opera for the past 12 seasons, will add a more visible podium in 2010-11, as music director of the American Composers Orchestra.

WQXR’s new Conductor’s Choice series launches with Maestro George Manahan in the driver’s seat. Manahan will lead listeners through Finnish composer Jean Sibelius's Symphony No. 7 and Finlandia, Friday, April 9 at 8p.m.

WQXR is celebrating Frédéric Chopin's 200th birthday with 3 hours of special programming. The party kicks off on tonight, March 1 at 7 p.m and includes a performance of Chopin's Piano Concerto #1 in E Minor and a recital by Garrick Ohlsson.

This hour-long special features the American pianist Garrick Ohlsson, the first and only American to win the prestigious Chopin International Competition, playing a program of Chopin compositions. Monday, March 1 at 9 p.m.

Soyer was a founding member of the Guarneri Quartet and he played with the group until he retired in 2002.
