Cardinal Says World Stands By Pope

Pope Benedict XVI did not discuss the sex abuse controversy rocking the Catholic Church at yesterday's Easter Mass at the Vatican.
But a prominent cardinal did say that bishops and 400,000 priests around the world stood by the Pope during remarks welcoming the Pope to the Vatican's Easter service. The New York Times reports that the cardinal's appearance was a departure from traditional Easter Sunday remarks at the Vatican.
Back in New York, Archbishop Timothy Dolan didn't mention the scandal during Easter Mass. But Dolan did tell reporters outside St. Patrick's Cathedral that it's time for people of all faiths to come together and put the controversy to rest.
"I'm wondering if we've said too much," Dolan said. "And I'm wondering if the best thing to do is say 'Thanks be to God' for the hope that Passover and Easter bring to all of us."
