St. Vincent's Medical Center Will Close

The board of the St. Vincent's Medical Center voted to shut the doors of its Greenwich Village hospital yesterday.
That will mean the end of the hospital's inpatient services, which include acute, rehab and behavioral health care services. All elective surgeries will end after April 14 but there is not yet a timetable in place for the hospital's closure.
Henry Amoroso, St. Vincent's chief executive, blames his institution's failing finances on a series of state budget cuts over the past two years, along with the recession.
New York State Senator Tom Duane says he will continue to fight to preserve a 24-hour emergency room at the facility. Health care workers and community leaders will protest the closure this morning at St. Vincent's at 11 AM.
