Defense Sec. Gates Announces Budget Cuts

Defense Secretary Robert Gates unveiled a series of cost-saving measures meant to trim the Pentagon budget by $100 billion over the next five years.
Speaking at the Pentagon on Monday, Gates said the department would close a command center in Norfolk, Va., and cut additional military jobs due to the struggling economy, according to The Associated Press. Gates has also recommended immediately curtailing the military's use of contractors by at least 10% over the next three years, according to the DOD website.
