President Barack Obama will talk to Republicans at a bipartisan health care session today. The president, along with his Democratic allies, will try to make a case for a $1 trillion health care reform package.
The Associated Press reports that Democrats would like to extend coverage to more than 30 million people who are now uninsured. That would cost $1 trillion over ten years. Republicans are holding steadfast in their opposition so Democrats are already looking beyond today's meeting to pass legislation.
"I think it's nearly impossible to imagine a scenario under which we could reach an agreement," Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky told The AP. "Because we don't think we ought to pass a 2,700-page bill that seeks to restructure one-sixth of our economy."
WNYC will be streaming the summit live. Click here to stream at WNYC.org from 10 AM to 4 PM with a break for lunch.
