Democratic officials say New York Governor David Paterson will not seek election to a full term this fall, according to a report from The Associated Press.
Democrats in Washington were told of his plans not to seek reelection early this morning. The governor is expected to make the announcement at a press conference later today. The latest word is that he'll speak at 3 p.m. today. WNYC will have full coverage of that press conference.
Governor Paterson formally announced his run for a full term a few days ago, amid calls that he should not run due to a domestic-violence scandal his top aide is involved in.
Paterson became New York Governor in 2008, after former Governor Eliot Spitzer resigned in a prostitution scandal.
