Kagan Confirmed by Senate Judiciary Committee

Elena Kagan is inching closer to a full Senate vote on her nomination to the Supreme Court.
As expected, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to approve her nomination on Tuesday, in a vote of 13 to 6. According to the Associated Press, Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina was the only Republican to vote with Democrats in favor of her nomination.
Kagan went through a round of Congressional hearings last month, answering questions on her record as Dean of Harvard Law school and U.S. Solicitor General.
Republicans raised questions over her decision to bar military recruiters' access to students during her tenure at Harvard. As the New York Times reports, others rasied concerns about her political leanings, citing her work under the Clinton administration.
Kagan's nomination is expected to come up for a vote in the full Senate before the end of the year, but the AP reports that some Republicans may attempt a filibuster.
