U.N. Estimates at Least 400,000 Displaced By Violence in Kyrgyzstan

The U.N. has dramatically increased its estimate of the amount of people displaced by the crisis in southern Kyrgyzstan to 400,000.
Tens of thousands of refugees from southern Kyrgyzstan are fleeing to neighboring Uzbekistan after violence aimed at ethnic Uzbeks. The crisis has left refugees without enough food and water in grim camps along the Uzbek border.
The interim Kyrgyz government has introduced a state of emergency and imposed a 24 hour curfew. The U.S. is watching the conflict closely as Kyrgyzstan is an important staging area for U.S. forces heading to Afghanistan.
