St. Vincent's Gets $6 Million Lifeline
Tuesday, March 02, 2010
St. Vincent's Medical Center is getting another $6 million in emergency funding, giving a task force convened by Gov. David Paterson more time to develop a strategy for the hospital's future.
The latest emergency funding was provided by GE Capital and TD Bank, which pledged $5 million. The State Assembly Majority pledged another $1 million.
The panel of hospital officials, lawmakers, and labor representatives had been given a month to come up with a solution for the cash-strapped hospital.
"They're not exactly sure how that's going to happen at this point, but I think they are working very hard and many of them have been working here for 20 years and its their home," says Randi Hoffman, spokesperson for the New York State Nurses Association, which represents about 800 Registered Nurses at St. Vincent's.
