Three suicide bombings killed at least 30 people today in the city of Baqouba, Iraq in Diyala province. The attacks come ahead of Sunday's national parliamentary elections.

The Associated Press reports that the attacks targeted a police checkpoint and a hospital. One suicide bomber was in an ambulance with other wounded passengers before blowing himself up.

U.S. and Iraqi officials have been warning civilians that insurgents may try to disrupt Iraq's parliamentary elections which take place March 7. Voters will decide who will be part of Iraq's governing body this Sunday as U.S. forces take a secondary role and plan to head home.

Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is one of the candidates in Sunday's election. Al-Maliki came to power in 2006 and wants to stay in office for another four years.
