NY Congressman Resigns Under Cloud
Friday, March 05, 2010
New York congressman Eric Massa announced that he is resigning today.
The freshman Democrat from Western New York is under investigation for allegations he harrassed a male aide. His resignation comes as Governor David Paterson faces increasing calls to resign and just a few days after Rep. Charlie Rangel was forced to step aside as chair of the House Ways and Means Committee amid multiple ethics investigations.
A former Naval officer, Massa declared in a statement that he is a "deeply flawed" person who frequently uses salty language. Massa had announced yesterday that he would not seek re-election, saying his doctors had told him his cancer had relapsed.
