Queens Imam Says He Knew of Zazi's Plans
Friday, March 05, 2010
A Queens imam has pleaded guilty to charges that he lied to FBI agents investigating a foiled suicide bomb plot against New York City.
The imam, Ahmad Afzali, appeared in Brooklyn federal court yesterday. Authorities arrested him last year during the investigation of Najibullah Zazi, who's pleaded guilty to plotting to use homemade bombs in the subways.
Prosecutors say the imam told Zazi he was under surveillance when he arrived in New York in September. Zazi, a former Colorado airport shuttle driver, attended high school in Queens.
