NJ Arts Organizations Cancel Season's Shows

The American Repertory Ballet in New Brunswick and the 12 Miles West Theatre Company in Madison have cancelled their remaining shows this season.
The Star Ledger reports that the companies had to cancel their shows because they ran out of funds.
"Shrinking philanthropic dollars, from government in particular, combined with the shortage of earned income — the two can’t be tolerated," Marvin Preston, the ballet’s executive director, told The Ledger. The ballet's last show of the year will be its gala on March 27. "Unfortunately, (our) audience is not what it needs to be."
The theatre company's artistic director rattled off similar reasons for his company's canceling its shows.
"We were without a permanent home, and no income stream and then the economy totally falls through," Lenny Bart told The Ledger. His company was sharing stage space with Playwrights Theatre. "It affected donors, not to mention ticket sales."
