Democrats Still Pushing for Health Reform

Thursday, March 11, 2010

House Democrats say a vote on health care reform is still more than a week away.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says there first needs to be a cost report from the Congressional Budget Office. House leaders have decided not to include measures limiting abortion coverage that's being sought by anti-abortion Democrats.

Meanwhile, two top congressional Democrats say they are trying to tack an overhaul of student lending programs on to the health care reform legislation. The White House has not said whether it will support joining the two proposals, but other Democrats worry the move could make it difficult to pass the health reform bill.
