Lawmakers Get Closer on Health Care Reform

Thursday, March 11, 2010

Congress and administration officials are moving closer to an agreement on health care reform.

The Associated Press reports that there's agreement on such issues as subsidies to help lower-income families purchase health insurance and additional Medicaid funding for low-income Americans in certain states. That's the word from the White House after a closed door meeting in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office yesterday.

Democrats are still waiting on a final cost estimate from the Congressional Budget Office for the plan. Many don't want a plan that exceeds $950 billion over 10 years.

The AP reports that the President Barack Obama has invited members of the Congressional Black Caucus and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus to the White House to discuss the legislation with him today.
