Storm Erodes Long Island Beaches

The weekend's storm caused major beach erosion at Jones Beach and Robert Moses State Park on Long Island.
State Parks Department spokesman George Gorman said the entire sand area at Jones Beach was under water yesterday, and that it will take weeks to clean the parks up and restore the sand.
In addition, all the trails at Long Island's state parks were closed because of fallen trees and tree limbs.
Gorman says at least 100 trees came down at state parks on Long Island during the storm. Some parts of Long Island received nearly four inches of rain over a 48-hour period.
The Associated Press reports that at least eight people died in storm-related accidents over the weekend, and nearly half a million people were without electricity in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Connecticut at the peak of the storm.
