The Senate will begin its Judiciary Committee Supreme Court Justice confirmation hearings for U.S. Solicitor General Elena Kagan on June 28.

The Associated Press reports that the Senate hopes to complete its hearings by early July. If that happens, Kagan's confirmation could be voted on before the Senate takes its August recess.

The Senate Judiciary Committee will also pour through Kagan's speeches and writings, her work as solicitor general and the articles she wrote for Princeton University's campus newspaper, according to The AP. The committee will also look at more than 150,000 pages from Kagan's time as domestic policy adviser and associate White House counsel when they arrive from the Clinton presidential library in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Kagan is the president's choice to replace retiring Justice John Paul Stevens.
