Naomi Lewin is the weekday afternoon host on WQXR, and the host of WQXR’s bi-weekly podcast Conducting Business. Before arriving at WQXR, Lewin was the midday host at WGUC, Cincinnati’s classical public radio station.
Ligeti at the New York Philharmonic

I’m really looking forward to the New York Philharmonic’s production of Le Grand Macabre, by György Ligeti. Ligeti wrote some wonderful, innovative music. When I was in college, I got to sing his Lux Aeterna (which also put in an audio appearance in "2001: A Space Odyssey"). It was one of the most memorable choral experiences of my life.
According to The New York Times, the majority of New York Philharmonic subscribers don't share my enthusiasm. Earlier this week, Daniel Wakin wrote that regular Philharmonic concertgoers are staying away in droves. The good news is that single-ticket sales are robust, which means a lot of folks who don't usually find their way to Avery Fisher Hall will be there this weekend.
And that's a good thing. Along with the usual bunches of Beethoven, tons of Tchaikovsky and vats of Vivaldi, it's great to have a little Ligeti.

We were told that all events (including pre-performance discussion) are completely sold out. Good to know that there is this sort of support for Ligeti's music, even if not amongst the regular subscribers. I, for one, am very much looking forward to this evening!
