James Jorden on the New Opera Season

The Metropolitan Opera season opens tonight with Das Rheingold, the first opera in Wagner's epic Ring cycle. My guest today is James Jorden, who is most famous - or should I say infamous - for his alter ego La Cieca on the e-zine Parterre.com. He also writes about opera for the New York Post.
He joins me on air today at 4 p.m. to offer his views on the Met's new Ring, as well as other major opera happenings this season.

Why would anyone provide a photograph that looks like Howdy Doody?
All opera houses play the Russian Roulette game of announcing productions, singers, conductors, designers, stage directors and galas for the approaching season, with their fingers crossed, hoping that they have not bally-hood something that may turn out to be a disappointment, a DUD !
A spectacular debut can immeasurably bolster the interest and involvement of many beyond the Usual, Customary expected turnout audience in the theater and the audiences hearing/seeing in HD in other theaters around the world in real time, concurrent with the live performance.
This prospect can turn up another legend to be. "Luck be a lady," borrowing Frank Loesser's song title, may make us all Happy Fellas if another Bjorling, Caruso, Toscanini or Wagner arrives in time to save the ship, to save OPERA !
