MUSIC DIRECTOR, WQXR

New York Public Radio seeks a Music Director to oversee WQXR’s classical music scheduling. The Music Director is an integral part of the station’s music programming team, creating top-quality, NYC-focused radio and web content that preserves the legacy of WQXR while expanding the reach of classical music locally and globally. The Music Director will be passionate and knowledgeable about classical music, using those qualities to curate playlists that emphasize the gold-standard classical repertoire, and performances that appeal to the casual as well as the serious listener.

In addition to scheduling daily music logs and providing support for WQXR's on-air personalities, this position communicates across internal departments as well as among members of the cultural community and the music industry at large. The Music Director also plays a significant role in creating music content online and integrating that content with on-air programming.

ASSISTANT PRODUCER, THE TAKEAWAY

GENERAL SUMMARY
Co-producers WNYC and PRI—in collaboration with the BBC World Service, The New York Times, and WGBH Boston television and radio—are reinvigorating morning drive. The Takeaway is a new multi-platform national morning drive news program that is creating a new model for morning news and public broadcasting in the 21st century. The show is rooted in the values public radio is best known for—highly credible journalism, depth and context—but breaks out from the medium's conventionally packaged sound. The project features live conversation, reporters in locations around the world, a cast of regular contributors, audience interaction, a website and distributed content, and video. The show is live, delivering national and international news and cultural stories through a conversational and unprecedented personality-driven format.

The Takeaway began airing on public radio stations across America in April 2008, with the mission to host and reflect the American conversation—bringing together diverse perspectives and voices through the connection of local, national and international news. During this time, the show has expanded from two to four hours live on-air to provide live content for other time zones. The enterprise builds on public radio's morning success with content and strategies that will bring new audiences to public radio and public service media online.

About the position:
The Assistant Producers will be responsible for operating all broadcast audio equipment associated with the live production of the show. The hires will be instrumental in maneuvering the fast-paced and high-intensity environment of a live national radio show. Under the direction of the Technical Director, the assistant producers will play a significant role in the sound and technical aspects of the show. Much of the work on the program will take place during early morning hours.

THE BRIAN LEHRER SHOW INTERNSHIP

Submission Deadline: July 21st, for a mid-August through mid-November internship

The Brian Lehrer Show is WNYC's Peabody Award-winning news/talk program, broadcast in New York on FM and AM, and worldwide on the web at www.wnyc.org from 10 a.m. to noon weekdays. The show serves as a town square for New York and beyond, with newsmakers and agenda-setters, journalists and listeners conversing at length on the local, national and international news and cultural and social trends of the day.

Internships: The Brian Lehrer Show is accepting applications from people interested in helping out with the production of the program. Internships last three months and require at least one full day's commitment (8:30-3:30) per week, preferably two. There is a small daily stipend and past interns have received academic credit. They take place at WNYC Radio in New York City, where The Brian Lehrer Show is produced.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Interns are an integral part of the staff, and assist with all aspects of the show's production. Tasks include:

  • Call-screening
  • Checking in with guests
  • Pitching ideas
  • Providing research assistance and basic audio editing

MEMBERSHIP OFFICER, GIFT PROCESSING

The Membership Officer is responsible for providing Customer Service to New York Public Radio (NYPR) members with regards to gift processing problems related to the lock box (DMP) and charge processing (SAGE) vendors. Reporting to the Associate Director, the Membership Officer is primarily responsible for transactions and issues related to WNYC and WQXR’s 21,000 + sustaining members, assisting the Sustaining Membership Manager to keep the gift processing aspect of the program running smoothly and efficiently.

The Membership Officer will work in collaboration with the Donor Database Quality Manager in maintaining Sustaining member records and processing returned mail.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage dedicated Sustainer Email Box responding to donors’ gift related inquiries including coordinating annual premium requests and account information updates. Typical requests include: updating credit card information, entering premium requests, changing monthly gift amounts, merging duplicate accounts, address and name changes, and more.
  • Assist Sustaining Membership Manager in managing dedicated Sustainer Hotline voicemail by responding to gift processing related inquiries, account information updates and premium requests
  • Working from a report generated each week, review and adjust all problematic sustainer accounts in Team Approach (donor database), including entering interactions, to ensure that history is collected, so that efforts can be made to recapture these members
  • Respond to and investigate inquiries from sustaining members (and installment donors), identifying and handling any irregularities in Team Approach, on a daily basis
