WQXR is a media partner for Westchester Oratorio Society’s "To the Glory of Spring" concert with REBEL Baroque ensemble, featuring works by Vivaldi and Haydn.  

 

TO THE GLORY OF SPRING! 
Join Westchester Oratorio Society on Sunday afternoon May 4, 3 PM, at the South 
Salem Presbyterian Church for a special concert entitled, “To the Glory of Spring,” 
where we will have the privilege of being accompanied by the acclaimed REBEL 
Baroque Ensemble on period instruments. The performance features three choral 
works: Vivaldi, “Gloria," Haydn "Kleine Orgelmesse” and Bach “Hallelujah BWV 143.” 
 
Soloist will be Miriam Chaudoir, soprano, Corrine Byrne, soprano and Biraj Barkakaty, 
countertenor. 
 
REBEL Baroque Ensemble, are established recording artists, popular throughout 
Westchester, the United States and internationally. The group can often be heard on 
public radio and for years on WQXR simulcasting annually with Owen Burdick. REBEL 
will also perform three instrumental pieces, Vivaldi "Concerto per archi in G minor RV 
156,” Bach, “Concerto for Oboe d’amore after BWV 1055" and Hasse "Fuga & Grave in 
G minor.” 
 
Don't miss this special event which has been selected by WQXR radio for a media 
partnership and received an ArtsAlive grant made possible with funds from the 
Decentralization Program, a re-grant program of the New York State Council on the Arts 
(NYSCA) with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State 
Legislature and administered by ArtsWestchester. 
 
A pre-concert talk will be given by John Moran, musicologist (Ph.D., King's College, 
London) and REBEL baroque cellist and viola da gamba. player, from 2 pm to 2:30 pm, 
free to ticket holders. Mr. Moran specializes in the historically informed performance of 
music and teaches at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore.
