Just heard the first mvt. of the Archduke Trio. Why is it that QXR constantly plays these snippets instead of complete works? This was supposed to change when the station went "non-profit", but sadly has not. This is such a frustration for New Yorkers who love this music, and whose only classical station in the city is QXR, since WNYC abandoned classical music at 9/11 (except for some scattered hours on KCR).
Thanks so much for the Lohengrin "legend". I heard that story in 1960 from my music teacher at Maplewood Junior High School here in Maplewood, NJ, so how can it not be true! Though she said he actually sang the words "when's the next swan". Miss Rodgers loved opera and would have loved operavore. THANKS,Jeff, for the opera lore- keep it alive.
