First: A question.... Why is some of the most beautiful music ever written only played late at night? Last week it was the "Kindertotenlieder" of Mahler's sung by Bryn Terfel and tonight it is Wagner's "Liebesnacht" with Jon Vickers and Helga Dernesch. Much as I hate not sleeping well, I delight in hearing wonderful music such as this even if I can't get back to sleep because I must listen. I want to turn the radio up as loud as possible... but unfortunately living in New York City the neighbors would complain.
However, let me thank WQXRs night owls for the delightful music they present during the wee hours of the mornings. I am most grateful.
