New York Philharmonic
Petite Suite by Debussy was the first piece of classical music I ever liked. It was the theme song for a DJ named Alison Steele [sp] who worked for WNEW-FM back in the late 50's early 60's.
These were the days when AM stations were required to have FM station in order to promote the FM band. Since there was no commercial value to the FM band at the time the stations let a bunch of 'kids' basically do whatever they wanted.
Alison Steele played one of the most eclectic mixes of music I had ever heard. I learned about so many different genres.
Unfortunately FM started to catch on and WNEW-FM went commercial and out went the eclectic DJs.
Imagine my surprise when one night I was listening to WQXR a -- all of a sudden there's the old theme song from my youth.
Thanks for bringing it back to my world.
I love your show!!!
