(NEW YORK, NY – April 3, 2012) – On Friday, April 20 at 7 pm ET, organist, composer and YouTube sensation CAMERON CARPENTER will join WQXR host TERRANCE MCKNIGHT for a kaleidoscopic tour of captivating, diverse repertoire for organ.

Carpenter, hailed by The Advocate as an “ambitious radical who plays with unrelenting scope, vigor and imagination,” will sit down with McKnight in The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space for an intimate conversation about the breadth and relevance of organ music in the 21st century, his efforts to bring music from film, anime and popular culture into the organ repertoire, and how he crafts a memorable concert – including his famous wardrobe and stage décor.

In his only scheduled New York City appearance this spring, Carpenter will treat the in-studio and live video webcast audiences to one of his signature high-octane performances, taking older, familiar music and using modern technology to present it in innovative and unexpected ways.  The evening’s pieces will range from legendary works by Johann Sebastian Bach to re-workings of Charles Ives and Percy Grainger, to Carpenter’s own original compositions and arrangements of songs from George Gershwin and Leonard Cohen

Tickets are $15 and available at www.thegreenespace.org; a live video webcast will be available at www.thegreenespace.org and www.q2music.org.

“In keeping with the mission of Q2 Music’s keyboard show Hammered!, Cameron celebrates both the adventurous and the risk-taking strains of contemporary keyboard artistry,” said Alex Ambrose, Producer of Q2 Music, WQXR’s online music station dedicated to living composers. “His virtuosity makes him a compelling advocate for the instrument, and his unmitigated and often provocative embrace of technology places his art in a riveting, contemporary light. We are thrilled to share his performance with both our in-person and online audiences.”
