If someone had the key to your soul, and they were able to unlock that cabinet, what do you think they would find? On this episode of All Ears we explore some self-reflective compositions. We play composers who take a look inside themselves and help us discover something new.
We hear Trevor Pinnock conducting the English Concert in Johann Sebastian Bach's Concerto for four harpsichords and strings, BWV 1065. The tinkling of the keys makes us think of a jangling sound just before you open a door.
Sharon Isbin and Joan Baez sing the traditional folk tune Wayfaring Stranger. It's a song which shows us that everyone is just traveling this world alone. And we begin the show with music by Arvo Part - Mirror in the Mirror, featuring Simon Heram playing saxophone.
Other thoughtful compositions on the program include Myself when I am Real performed by Charles Mingus, as well as the Kronos Quartet performing "Fear" from Astor Piazzolla's the Five Tango Sensations. Finding the right key to unlock the door is a journey, so just take a moment and listen. Hopefully we help you find the right one.
