Stephen Sondheim's "Company" at the NY Philharmonic
Friday, April 08, 2011
In this week's Arts File, Brian Zumhagen speaks with New York Post theater critic Elisabeth Vincentelli about the highs and lows of a new production of Stephen Sondheim's musical Company.
For its Spring Gala, the New York Philharmonic chose to put on Sondheim's Company with big name Broadway stars, TV actors, and even comedian Stephen Colbert. Vincentelli weighs in on the performances, the production, and whether this show was the right choice for the New York Philharmonic.

This might be OK if it were a theater fund-raiser or a theater/TV group collaboration. A New York Philharmonic Gala? I don't think so.
I would go to this kind of show because it is so unique. It would be fun to see these people step into roles without rehearsing together. I am sure that I would not be that critical of the overall flow of the show, but more just there to enjoy the special moments.
