"West Side Story" Writer Arthur Laurents Dies at 93

In this week's Arts File, Kerry Nolan speaks with New York Times chief theater critic Ben Brantley about the life and work of Arthur Laurents.
The director, playwright and screenwriter died at his home in Manhattan Thursday. He was 93. Laurents wrote the books for "West Side Story" and "Gypsy," shows that Brantley calls two major landmarks in the history of the American musical. He also worked in film and wrote the screenplays for the "The Way We Were" and Alfred Hitchcock's "Rope."
