Piano Trios of French and Spanish Influence

The Chamber Music Society program this week features the flavors of Spain with works by the composers Joaquin Turina and Maurice Ravel, one Spanish and the other heavily Spanish-influenced, respectively.
Spain and France share a border around which the cultures of both countries intermingle. Ravel’s mother was born to a Basque family in a French village near the Spanish border, and spoke Spanish fluently. Turina, born in Seville, studied during his formative years in Paris, where he came to know intimately the music of Debussy and Ravel.
In this program, enjoy and appreciate the reciprocal musical fascination between France and Spain in two piano trios composed only 12 years apart.
