Riccardo Muti has only been at the helm of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as music director for a couple of weeks, but the 69-year-old maestro is already back home in Italy, struck down with severe gastric illness.  Thankfully, Muti leaves us a new recording of the Verdi Requiem to enjoy in the meanwhile, which we get a taste of on this week's Choral Fixation.

 

Other works include Stravinsky's Symphony of Psalms, Borodin's Polovetsian Dances and Grainger's I'm Seventeen Come Sunday. Performers include the man filling in for Muti in Chicago: Pierre Boulez.
