During the Civil Rights Movement, many leaders inspired and guided the US through a time of great political and social struggle. We honor them by celebrating their lives and achievements through song.
Today, spirituals and tone poems focus on reflecting peace as well as the human condition: despair, hope and exultation. We celebrate the life of Martin Luther King, Jr., church leaders and others with this edition of the Choral Mix.

This program makes my week every week.
This is an absolutely fabulous selection of music, sung by masters of the choral art.
First piece, was incredible. Ms. Bishop, singing, with, of all groups, Chanticleer, made a memorable impression!
The rest of it was fabulous as well.
Absolutely stunning program.
Thank you.
Dear WQXR: Thank you for sponsoring the "Choral Mix" with Kent Tritle. His programs are always appropriate, elegant and on-target for the season or holiday being celebrated and today's (1/20/13, Martin Luther King Holiday) was one of the best ever, including such a wide range of top-notch performing choral groups from across the nation and great, soulful repertoire aimed at celebrating a spiritual leader whose time ended all too quickly. Mr. Tritle is a treasure for our city and the nation as well.
Sincerely, James Moritz
one of the best ever including, as it did, such a wide range of top-notch choral groups and
Thundering chords from a gospel piano and then a gospel choir launches into "My Soul Is A Witness." That's what it was all about. Glorious. Thank you.
Thank you Kent for a glorius and diverse set of music that is wonderful any day but especially this one in 2013.
