This week's From the Top comes from New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall in Boston. Our line-up of outstanding performers includes an 11-year-old pianist from Oregon who says she's really shy (you be the judge!), and a 17-year-old timpanist from here in Massachusetts who'll give us an entertaining introduction to the big copper drums.

Cellist and Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist James Kim, 16, from, Natick, MA, performs Fantasy on Little Russian Songs, Op. 43 by David Popper

Pianist Adria Ye, 11, from Lake Oswego, OR, performs Restlessness, Op. 19, No. 5 and The Spinning Song, Op. 67, No. 4 from Songs Without Words by Felix Mendelssohn

Baritone Sean Plumb, 17, from Los Angeles, CA, performs I. Vagabond and IX. I Have Trod the Upward and the Downward Slope from Songs of Travel by Ralph Vaughan Williams

Violinist and 10th Anniversary Alumni Performer Maya Shankar performs Melody from Orpheus and Eurydice by Christoph von Gluck, arranged by Fritz Kreisler.

Percussionist Ted Babcock, 17, from Wenham, MA, performs VIII. March from Eight Pieces for Four Timpani by Elliott Carter
