And Now For Something Completely Different ...
Juxtapositions of new and old for harpischord
Monday, March 18, 2013
The timbral language of the harpsichord intriguingly, if not unexpectedly, connects the modern and pre-Classical eras. This week on Hammered! we explore that lineage by juxtaposing music from the Baroque era with more recently written scores, all composed for the harpsichord.
Tune in this week for new and old music mash-ups for harpsichord by composers George Frideric Handel, Domenico Scarlatti, Iiannis Xenakis, John Zorn, Gyorgy Ligeti, Elliott Carter and others. Beginning Thursday we re-frame our theme and join programmatic forces with WQXR's Bach 360 Festival, focusing on the influence of the great Baroque master on the compositional languages of the modern era.
