Before conductor James Conlon lifted the baton in LA Opera’s production of Wagner’s Ring Cycle at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion this past spring, he crossed the street to Walt Disney Concert Hall to lead the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The occasion: an all-Prokofiev program. It's the subject of this week's broadcast.

On the first half are two early works, the Symphony No. 1 ("Classical") and the First Piano Concerto, the latter featuring 21-year-old French soloist Lise de la Salle. After intermission, Conlon turns to excerpts from the ballet Romeo and Juliet, one of Prokofiev’s most popular works.

Conductor: James Conlon

Soloist: Lise de la Salle, piano
