The Los Angeles Philharmonic has attracted lots of attention for its youthful music directors, most recently 28-year-old Gustavo Dudamel, who just finished his first season leading the orchestra. But there's another under-30 conductor worth watching: LA's 23-year-old associate conductor Lionel Bringuier.
This week he conducts a program featuring Berlioz’s swashbuckling Le Corsaire Overture, followed by Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor, with Emanuel Ax as soloist, and finally, with Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 6 in B Minor, a relatively obscure work that packs a powerful punch.
